Lyric: Movin On (2003)

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

You’re comin at me like I’m still free
You’re actin like it’s like it used to be
But “used to be” was a long time ago

You know the answer but you never asked
You think the future’s just like the past
But I passed you by a long time ago
And if you gave it any thought, honey you would know know know
No no no

Hot Drink: Cocoa Mocha

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

This hot morning drink is better than anything that’s easier, and vice-versa.  It fulfills humankind’s needs for sugar and caffeine at times when one is barely functional, and unable to make real coffee without spilling things on the floor.  I came up with the recipe while campinng, but have since adapted it to more civilized surroundings.  It saves my life about twice a week, including today.

Haiku: Office Move

Monday, May 4th, 2009

My office got moved
Everything’s in the wrong place
Oh how will I cope?

It all has to be “just so”
Or I can’t function

It’s not OCD
I’m sure it’s not, I’m normal
Well, maybe it is

Ashes

In a single moment, everything can change.  You’re in the middle of your life, blissful.  The phone rings; you trip; you look in the rear-view mirror; or someone speaks.  From then on, your life is divided into Before and After.

Song Lyric: Lotus Land (1981)

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Peacock song in lotus land
Terminal lines find their rhymes in your hand
Look within them if you would see
The pattern of your life’s futility

Song Lyric: Early Harvest (1993)

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

It’ll be an early harvest
For the winter’s close at hand
I can feel that North wind blowin
Like a shadow stretchin ‘cross the land
Years ago when I was younger
The crops grew taller and the days were longer
But now my hair is touched with frost

Song Lyric: Loving Logic (1984)

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

You can say that the world is round
As you stand on solid ground
But can you tell me when life begins
When you’re not sure what life is?

Three Haiku For Naomi

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Sooner or later
Men let you down. Guaranteed –
They’re just made that way

The love you can trust
Begins with you. Believe it
And love yourself first

Make a small bright sun
Inside your chest; get warm, smile
And open your eyes
